Hey Sexy Soul!

Have you ever re-written a blog post or an Instagram caption 5 times because you wanted it to be perfect

Have you ever taken months to release something to the world because it wasn’t perfect enough

Have you taken weeks to tweak this or change something for fear that you will make a mistake or that you will disappoint someone?

WHAT IS PERFECTIONISM?

Brene’ Brown author of the “Gifts of Imperfection” states:  Perfectionism is a self-destructive and addictive belief system that fuels this primary thought: If I look perfect, live perfectly, and do everything perfectly, I can avoid or minimize the painful feelings of shame, judgment, and blame. – Brene’ Brown.

You have spent a large part of your life trying to:

  • Be a good girl

  • Get the perfect score on the test

  • Find the perfect dress

  • Get the perfect job

  • Look perfect on FB Live

Unfortunately, you spend less time focusing on:

  • Being happy

  • Following our instincts

  • Sharing what we were passionate about

  • Living in the moment

  • Being compassionate to ourselves

Why Perfectionism is Limiting You

  • Perfectionism is preventing you from sharing who you truly are.

  • The need to be “Perfect” is keeping you stuck where you are. Because you are trying to be perfect, you aren’t leveling up in your business because you aren’t following your inspiration. This need is to feed your fear to allow the world to see what you are passionate about because you are afraid to be wrong.  Unfortunately, you are afraid to make mistakes.

  • Perfectionism is limiting your growth. If you are a business owner,…NEWS FLASH… your customer does not want someone who is perfect.  The Customer wants to connect with a person who is THEMSELVES. The ideal client or customer you want to work with will be attracted to you because you are human and they can see parts of themselves in you.

Being human is messy.

You are human and being HUMAN is messy. It is imperfect and that is OK. When you accept that imperfection is a part of life you will start to see that mistakes or “failures” are really just learnings.

Recently, I was scrolling my Facebook feed and I noticed a link to a sales page from a coach in my industry who is killing it. When I went to the page I noticed that there were misspellings and various design challenges that I would have spent several days perfecting.

But she didn’t. She put her content out there. She is making a difference and helping her clients. And guess what? She recently earned over $50K with her launch.

Then, I checked out another Coach. Her offering while everything was very informative did not have the bells and whistles that I thought would be necessary to attract high-end clients.

But here’s the thing. It didn’t matter. She earned $20K in a month. She booked 30 discovery calls in 30 days! Nothing was perfect and yet these women were doing so very well. That’s when it clicked for me.

No one is looking for perfection. They are looking for you to be you. Clients, Vendors, Stockists, Employers, and more are looking for someone who is authentic and relatable. Everyone is looking to connect with someone who is helping to solve their problem!

There is an old proverb that says “A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.”

I am a Recovering Perfectionist.

I know how you feel. I am a recovering perfectionist.

This whole imperfect action thing feels really scary.

What happens if the picture doesn’t upload?  What happens if I misspell something?

Guess What?  Nothing.  Nothing will happen.

You can change and update any mistakes you find.  Or you can leave them there. It is OK! Everything is going to be alright!

Here are 5 ways to Let Go of Perfection

1 – GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK

Be easier on yourself. Treat yourself like you would one of your close friends or someone special in your life. Would you speak to your friends like you speak to yourself?

2 – EVALUATE THE TRUE RISK

What is the true risk if you were to launch or release whatever you have created just the way it is? When you look at it through open eyes and a loving heart you will realize that it isn’t the end of the world if you misspell something or use a picture that doesn’t resonate.

3 – REMEMBER YOU CAN ALWAYS CHANGE

You will continue to grow and shift every day.  But Guess What?  You will never know what to adjust if you don’t release it for your world to see.

4 – TAKE LOTS OF INSPIRED ACTION

Take action and release the expectations for specific results. Remember the 80-20 rule. The majority of your actions will work out in your favor.

5 – BE HERE NOW

LIVE in the MOMENT. Be HERE NOW. Enjoy your life and make time for fun. Know that things will work out. Even if it isn’t perfectly perfect, it will be OK. Your audience is excited about you and your message.

Take Imperfect Action Today

I promise you can always change and update and improve along the way. Just go for it. Just get started. Just go talk to the guy or present your presentation. Feel proud of what you are doing and keep taking steps forward.

Journal Prompt

Where am I trying to be perfect? What ways can I embrace imperfect action going forward?

In your journaling have fun with it. Remember to dig deep. Keep asking yourself why you responded in a certain way. And get to the bottom of the reason why you aren’t doing whatever it is now.THEN, shift to what you want to do.

Christine Michelle
